Every homeowner faces design challenges, and for me, it’s a particular wall in my bedroom. With a new recliner about to arrive, the corner designated for cozy reading has become a focal point for creativity and concern. What's the challenge? The presence of an unavoidable breaker box and the awkward placement of my television make for a tricky design puzzle.
Finding Value in Complications
Initially, I disliked the idea of having a breaker box in this space, but as time passed, I realized that its location is quite convenient. You see, the breaker box is tucked away in the corner, which means it isn’t immediately visible when you walk into the room. Covering it with artwork sounds appealing, but then there's the looming TV hanging above the dresser. Balancing these two rectangles in such a small area is more complicated than I had anticipated.

This shelf could cover the area above the chair rail, providing a unique space for both books and decorative items. This approach not only adds creativity but could also serve as an eye-catching focal point alongside the TV.
Building It Myself: Pros and Cons
As I consider this DIY option, I recognize that creating a custom shelf comes with its own set of challenges. The biggest question: can I pull off the elegant curved top I envision? It might also require research into how to securely hang it while still allowing accessibility to the breaker box. Maintaining convenience without compromising aesthetics is key.
